About Anatomy of a Scandal

Anatomy of a Scandal is an anthology series on Netflix based on the novel by Sara Vaughan. The show follows a London woman whose politician husband is accused of rape. It also includes the trial and a connection to a mysterious incident from their past.

James Whitehouse (Rupert Friends) is exposed for having an affair with a young staff member, Olivia (Naomi Scott). Like any politician, he believes the story will blow over and he can move on with his life. But when Olivia accuses him of rape, he is taken to trial and must divulge everything about their affair leading up to the assault.

James and his wife, Sophie (Sienna Miller), now must grapple with the horrifying truths of his actions. This brings up memories of Sophie’s days at Oxford University. She must confront the dark part of her relationship that she never wanted to believe.

Back in Oxford, James and prime minister, Tom Southern (Geoffrey Streatfeild), were both in a social club for privileged young men. They were best friends. Things begin to creep back up when Sophie remembers something about her study buddy, Holly Berry. Holly abruptly leaving school in the first semester after an incident involving Tom.

Sophie repeatedly gives James the benefit of the doubt. But the incident with her study buddy make her rethink about the person she’s married to.
