Sneakerella Trailer
About Sneakerella
Sneakerella is a unique spin on the classic story of Cinderella. This new adaptation is set in the street-sneaker subculture of New York City. This modern telling of the story swaps genders and replaces the glass slippers with sneakers. And, yes, it is a musical; a pop/hip-hop musical.
The Sneakerella trailer reminds me of Ever After, because it was a more grounded version of the Cinderella story. But this is a Disney movie, so I’m sure there will be some magic involved.
El (Chosen Jacobs) works as a stock boy in his late mother’s shoe store in Queens. But his dream is to become a sneaker designer. He lives with his stepfather and two mean-spirited stepbrothers. Since his father and stepbrothers consistently thwart any opportunity coming his way, he hides his creative talents.
One faithful day, El meets Kira King (Lexi Underwood). Think of here as Manhattan’s Pincess Charming. She is the daughter of basketball star and sneaker tycoon Darius King (John Salley). Sparks fly when they bond over their love for sneakers.
With a little help from his best friend, Sami (Devyn Nekoda), and his Fair Godfather, El works up the courage to pursue his dreams. He uses his talents to pursue his dream of becoming a sneaker designer.
Sneakerella’ brings a vibrant, modern approach to a beloved story by suggesting that magic is the result of hard work and determination and exists within each of us. Liz Allen’s unique vision, Lexi and Chosen’s amazing chemistry, the incredible music and the gravity-defying choreography, will bring this movie to life and inspire audiences of all ages
