Kayla, a broke college student, decides to play an obscure 1980s survival computer game to get an unclaimed $100,000 prize. The game, a text-based adventure called CURS>R that plays on a data cassette. Wile the game appears to be like any other old school game, CURS/R has the ability to change reality itself. The players are able to bend and change the world around them through the choices they make in the game.

What make the game so intriguing for many is the prize money. The publishers promised a prize of $100,000 for the first player to beat the game. Despite the age of the make, the game has never been beaten and the prize money still has not been collected. All of the players that played the game have before they can complete the final level.

Kayla is in desperate need of cash. She’s a programmer living with her mother while looking for work other than custodial staff work. To avoid eviction, she decides to give the game a try.

The game asks, “Coffee or cake?”.

When Kayla types in coffee, a waitress suddenly appears pouring her a cup of coffee. Kayla doesn’t know about the history of the game. But she quickly learns that the game is cursed and that she must find a way to protect herself and the people she loves.

She desperately wants to stop playing the game, but she doesn’t because the game tells her that if she doesn’t choose, she will die.
