About Angelyne
Angelyne is a limited series on Peacock about the woman behind a mysterious billboard that captivated Los Angeles in the 1980s. Angelyne (Emmy Rossum) rose to fame when a series of billboards began to appear around town.
The billboards featured her curvy figure in a suggestive pose with only one word, “Angelyne”. These caught the attention of local media outlets making her famous. She received several offers for movie roles, magazine interviews and television show appearances.
The billboards were features in numerous movies and tv series such as the opening credit for Moonlighting, The Simpsons and Futurama. The main trademark of her persona was a pink Corvette.
She tried several times to become famous. She was a member of her boyfriend’s punk rock band Baby Blue. In 1982, she released her self-titled debut album. The album wasn’t much success. So she launched a massive billboard campaign. This was the campaign that made her famous.
After the success of the billboard campaign, she began working on her second album, Driven to Fantasy. She also had small parts in movies such as Earth Girls Are Easy, Dangerous Love and Homer and Eddie.
In the 2000s, she tried her hand at politics. In the 2003 California gubernatorial recall election, she finished 29th of 135 candidates. She finished 18th in the 2021 collection of 46 candidates. Finally, she signed a contract with designer Michael Kuluva to be the face of Tumbler and Tipsy’s limited edition t-shirt. The notoriety of the billboards ushered in the being famous for being famous influencer culture.
Angelyne is an homage to the real Angelyne, who became a cultural icon in Los Angeles. This isn’t the true story of Angelyne. It’s not a straightforward biopic. It’s a story inspired by everything Angelyne represents and so it’s a magical story, a hopeful story, a story about becoming the person you were meant to be and believing in your own inner strength to manifest your dreams.
