Significant Other Trailer
The Significant Other trailer follows a couple who decide to backpack through the Pacific Northwest. But things quickly turn south when they discover they are not alone. And it may not be human.
Harry (Jake Lacy) has recently proposed to his now fiancée Ruth (Maika Monroe). What better way to celebrate than to backpack through the woods. In the trailer, we see Ruth in the woods by herself covered in cuts and bruises. A couple of strangers find her and ask her what happened. Unfortunately, she can’t remember. We see glimpses of her and Harry on their trip and the events that took place. But it seems that their dream trip has turned into a nightmare. Ruth sees disturbing images of Harry falling to his death when he plunges off a cliff. We also see paranoid reactions of both characters. The final part of the trailer is of Ruth saying, “I haven’t been feeling like myself” to Harry. As we can see from the trailer, expect to see some kind of supernatural or sci-fi twist.
Significant Other was acquired by Paramount Players in a bidding war. They wanted to add more horror and thriller films to their library. The film is directed and co-written by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen. They are both behind the films Body and Villains.
The stars are no stranger to horror. Maika Monroe had her breakout role in the movie It Follows in 2014 and The Watcher coming to Netflix later this month. This will be the second time she was worked with the directors. The first is when she was featured in Villains.
Just as in the film, Jake Lacy is no stranger to playing the nice guy in movies. Having been the nice guy in Girls, Mrs. America and High Fidelity, he’s perfect for the role. But lately, Lacy has opted to play a different kind of character. In the upcoming series, A Friend of the Family, Lacy places the obsessive next door neighbor. His character kidnaps the neighbor’s daughter and assaults her repeatedly. The series premies on Peacock on October 6. So maybe there is more to his character than we realize.
Significant Other will make its world premiere on October 6, 2022 at New York Comic Con at the Javitz Convention Center. Following the screening, the cast and filmmakers will host a panel about the movie. Everyone else can stream it exclusively on Paramount+ on October 7.
