About Black Gold
Black Gold is a three-part documentary series that exposes the oil industry’s decades long conspiracy to alter the public perception of its impact on climate change to keep making money from it.
M. King Hubbert, a geologist, predicted that America would reach it peak oil production by the 70s. He claimed that there was no way of knowing how much oil was actually in the ground. Once the oil was gone it’s gone. It would take millions of years for the oil to replenish. It was called the “peak oil” theory.
In the late 1970s, Exxon’s scientists warned the company about Hubbert’s “peak oil” theory. They warned the company of the catastrophic effects of burning fossil fuels. The company ignored them and embarked on a black ops campaign to hide the evidence and keep the money flowing.
Black Gold takes an in-depth look at the role of Exxon and other oil companies have played in climate change. It explores the science behind global warming and tracks Exxon’s involvment in its denial.
The docuseries features several interviews from; a CEO nicknamed ‘Iron-Ass”, whistleblowers from Exxon’s own lab, professional climate deniers, a NASA scientist and a US Vice President.
BLACK GOLD is the truly epic story of a scientific discovery that rocked the world and a conspiracy to cover it up that threatens our existence. I am thrilled to be working with TIME Studios, Paramount+ and Iconic to bring it to theaters and screens around the world.
