Causeway Trailer
Apple Original Films and A24 recently released the trailer for Causeway. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence (Don’t Look Up, X-Men: Dark Phoenix) and Brian Tyree Henry (Bullet Train, Atlanta). It first appeared at the Toronto International Film Festival with rave reviews. Film critic David Rooney praised the chemistry between the two.
What is Causeway About?
Jennifer Lawrence plays Lynsey. She’s a military engineer who has recently returned from Afghanistan due to a brain injury after an IED explosion. Having to relearn how to walk and retain her memory, the recovery is slow and painful. But when she returns home, she feels out of place. She has to face memories even more aching than those she has in service, a reckoning with her childhood.
To make matters worse, she is staying with her mother to whom she shares a tense relationship. Eventually, she runs into James (Brian Tyree Henry) when her truck breaks down. He offers her a ride home from the auto repair shop. It turns out that James is suppressing his own past trauma. They slowly begin to rely on each other for company and solace. Soon, a friendship forms.
Yes, the premise of the film may seem bleak. However, it’s a story and coming to terms and moving forward. As we can see from the Causeway trailer, the movie will be very deep. Coming off it’s Oscar win for Best Picture for Coda, this film sets the stage for another win for the streaming service.
Causeway is directed by Lila Neugebaur (The Waverly Gallery, The Last Thing He Told Me). It is her first time directing a full feature film. Causeway also marks the first film produced by Lawrence’s production company, Excellent Cadaver. The script was written by Ottessa Moshfegh, Luke Goebel and Elizabeth Sanders. Along with Lawrence and Henry are Linda Emond and Stephen McKinley Henderson.
The film will be released in theaters and Apple TV+ on November 4.
