Conversations With Friends is based on the book by the same by Sally Rooney. It’s the second adaptation by Hulu. Sally Rooney’s book, Normal People, was developed into a TV series in 2020. The series won an Emmy, BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations. It’s the story about two young people in a small Irish town.

However, Conversations With Friends is a little more complicated. The show follows best friends and former lovers, Frances (Alison Oliver) and Bobbi (Sasha Lane). Both are college students at Trinity College in Dublin. They spend a lot of time together and love performing spoken word poetry.

During one of their performances, they meet a 30-something writer named Melissa (Jemima Kirke). They soon meet her actor husband, Nick (Joe Alwyn). The two enter the couple’s world of fancy dinners, holiday parties and book launch parties.

Frances begins an affair with Nick and Bobbi has an affair with Melissa. Both Frances and Bobbi hide their affairs from each other. This leads to intensity and uncertainly with Frances and Bobbi’s relationship. Despite breaking up year before, there seems to be feelings still there for one another. Frances is forced to reconsider her sense of self and the friendship she holds dear.
