About Senior Year
Senior Year is a comedy developed for Netflix. The movie centers around Stephanie Conway (Rebel Wilson). Stephanie is a popular cheerleader at her high school. But she suffers a head injury and falls into a coma before her senior prom.
Teenage Stephanie moved from Australia to the US and has issues fitting it. She vows to become popular and succeeds. Stephanie becomes cheer captain and is on track to be voted prom queen. Throughout her journey, she grows self-centered and kind of a jerk to her friends.
The year is 2002 and Stephanie is the captain of the cheerleading squat, the most popular girl in school and mostly likely to win prom queen. While cheerleading, Stephanie slips and falls off the top of a cheerleading pyramidBut and suffers a head injury and slips into a coma after a freak accident.
When she wakes up, it’s 2022. She has been in a coma for twenty years. Thinking she is still a teenager, the only goal on her mind is to win prom queen. So she enrolls in school to re-live her glory years.
Can a 37-year-old with no experience with the internet, really run a school in 2022? She has to become popular, learn to use Instagram, figure out what influencers do and deal with the realities of being in her 30s. Stephanie quickly learns that the rules of becoming popular in the 2000s are very different than 2022.
She also has competition to contend with. Her old nemesis, Tiffany (Zoë Chao), and her social media star daughter, Bri (Jane Bender), have a renewed quest for prom queen. She may realize that what mattered to her as a teen may not matter anymore.
