The series stars Oscar, Emmy and Tony® winner Viola Davis who plays former first lady Michelle Obama, Emmy nominee Michelle Pfeiffer as Betty Ford and Emmy and Screen Actors Guild® winner Gillian Anderson as Eleanor Roosevelt.

About Eleanor Roosevelt
Eleanor Roosevelt was the longest-serving first lady of the United States. She was called the “First Lady of the World” due to her human rights achievements. The role of the first lady was significantly reshaped and redefined because of her. She made appearances on President’s Roosevelt behalf, held regular press conferences, wrote a daily newspaper column, wrote a monthly magazine column, hosted a weekly radio show and spoke at a national party convention.
She spoke on many political issues such as civil rights for African Americans and later served as a delegate for the United Nations.
About Betty Ford
Betty Ford was best known for women’s right issues. She was known for raising best cancer awareness following her 1974 mastectomy. As a leader of the women’s rights movement, she commented on issues such as abortion, feminism, equal pay, the Equal Rights Amendment, sex, drugs and gun control.
She also raised awareness for addiction due to her battle with alcoholism and substance abuse.
About Michelle Obama
Michelle Obama was the first African American who served as first lady. She campaigned for her husband’s presidential bid and delivered a keynote address at a national convention. Michelle was a role model for women and worked as an advocate for poverty awareness, education, nutrition, physical activity and healthy eating.
The first season of The First Lady premieres on April 17, 2022, exclusively on Showtime.
