About The Lincoln Lawyer

The Lincoln Lawyer is based on the series of bestselling novels by author Michael Connelly. The first season is based on the book, The Brass Verdict. His first Lincoln Lawyer book was adapted into a movie starring Matthew McConaughey in 2011. He says that the character, Mickey Haller, had been “ruminating in my mind. So he decided to bring the character to the small screen for Netflix.

Connelly wanted the ability to tell the story of the book without having to condense it into a 100 minute movie. It gives him the freedom to dig deep into the character and the character’s motivations. He decided to focus on the second book because it’s a story people can relate to. The character is down on his luck and trying to get his mojo back.

The series follows Mickey Haller, a Los Angeles defense attorney who runs his practice out of the back of his Lincoln Town Car. He was born and raised in Los Angeles by his father who was a trial lawyer and a mother who was a Mexican actress. After learning from his father’s law books, he decides to follow in his footsteps and become a lawyer.

The story takes place just before Haller’s colleague is murdered. The colleague leaves all his paperwork to Haller to shift through. Haller plunges into his web of conspiracy that seems to revolve around one high profile murder case. But Haller is up for the task.

We need heroes and this show is about an underdog who chooses to do the right thing at great cost to himself and those he loves. That is a powerful story and I’m glad Netflix let us tell it.
