About The Sandman

The Sandman is based on the comic book of the same name for DC by Neil Gaiman. It’s a blend of modern myth and dark fantasy. Fiction, historical and the legend are seamlessly interwoven into the story.

The series follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic – and human – mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.

The Characters

The main character is Dream, known as Morpheus, who is one of the seven Endless. The other Endless are Destiny, Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium and Destruction. They are immortal beings whom embody different aspects of existence.

The series focuses on four of the Endless; Dream, Death, Desire and Despair. Other characters include; Johanna Constantine, Ethel Cripps, John Dee and Rose Walker.

Dream (Morpheus)

Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, is played by Tom Sturridge. He is the lord and personification of all dreams and fictional stories. Morpheus is summoned by a cult and held captive for decades. The series follows his journey to escape, atone for his past cruelties and rebuild his kingdom.

Death

Death is Dream’s wiser and nicer sister. She is the level-headed one of the group and the only one that can speak truth to Dream. She wears a silver ankh which serves as her sigil.

Desire

Desire is Dream’s and everything you want, whatever you want and whoever you are. They spell trouble for Dream.

Despair

Despair is Dream’s sister and Desire’s Twin. She is the moment when all hope is gone. The bleakest of the Endless.
